The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued comprehensive traffic guidelines ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, scheduled to take place on Friday evening at Bangabhaban.
According to a public notification issued by the DMP on Thursday, the oath-taking ceremony will commence at 7:30pm on Friday.
The event will see the attendance of the outgoing president, newly elected president, prime minister, speaker, chief justice, former presidents, members of the cabinet, foreign diplomats, high-ranking government officials, and other distinguished dignitaries.
To facilitate the undisrupted movement of guests, the traffic regulations will remain in force from 3pm to 9pm in and around Bangabhaban. The police clarified that these travel restrictions do not apply to the invited guests.
Key traffic restrictions
Prohibited zones: Entry of all types of vehicles will be completely banned from Alico Gap at Motijheel Shapla Chattar to Dilkusha Commercial Area (Bangabhaban Road) and Rajuk Crossing (DIT Road).
Bus route diversions: All buses heading from Shapla Chattar and Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk-Gulistan must travel via the Dainik Bangla–UBL–Press Club route (both ways) or use other suitable alternative roads.
Commercial vehicle bans: No commercial vehicles will be allowed to ply from Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk.
Hanif Flyover traffic: Vehicles arriving from Hanif Flyover are prohibited from making a U-turn at Zero Point. Instead, they must turn left towards Fulbaria or turn right via UBL Crossing to reach Dainik Bangla–Shapla Chattar.
Alternatively, they may travel via Zero Point–UBL Crossing–Nightingale Crossing–Fakirapool Crossing–Ittefaq.
The DMP has requested all drivers avoid these specified routes and use convenient alternative roads. Expressing sincere regret for the temporary traffic disruptions, the police department has sought the cooperation of the public.
