The Bangladesh Coast Guard has intensified patrols in border and coastal areas to prevent the smuggling of fuel oil and essential commodities to Myanmar.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information on Saturday afternoon.
He said the force has remained on maximum alert amid growing concerns that fuel oil and other daily necessities could be illegally smuggled from Bangladesh to Myanmar in the wake of the global fuel crisis.
Sabbir Alam Sujon said patrol operations and intelligence surveillance have already been strengthened in coastal border areas and river routes to prevent smuggling.
He said continuous patrols are being carried out day and night in coastal regions, waterways and border-adjacent areas to ensure that no dishonest syndicate can illegally smuggle fuel oil or other essential commodities.
“Operations against all forms of smuggling will continue in the interest of protecting the country’s economy and maintaining stability in the domestic market,” he said.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant about such illegal activities and report any suspicious information to the Coast Guard emergency hotline 16111.
