The death toll from devastating floods and mudslides along the Nepal-China border has risen to 1,400, while more than 5,800 people remain missing, according to official figures released on Tuesday.
Officials from Nepal and China said 848 foreigners are among those still unaccounted for, reports Anadolu.
Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority reported that authorities have recovered 1,357 bodies from flood-hit districts across the country. It said 5,326 people, including 587 foreigners, remain missing.
Rescue teams have so far evacuated more than 13,500 people, with some rescues continuing as recently as last weekend.
Meanwhile, mudslides in China’s southwestern Xizang Autonomous Region, also known as Tibet, have killed 43 people, while 519 others remain missing.
China on Tuesday sent a fourth batch of emergency relief supplies to Nepal as the country continues to deal with the disaster.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told reporters in Beijing that China will continue to stand firmly with Nepal to overcome the difficulties together.
