The Coast Guard has seized illegal shrimp fry worth about Tk6 crore in Baharchhara of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
Acting on a tip-off, the Baharchhara outpost of the Coast Guard carried out a special drive near Shamlapur Bazar under Baharchhara union around 5pm on Wednesday and seized the shrimp fry.
Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Suman Al Mukit confirmed the matter on Thursday night.
He said a suspicious truck travelling from Shamlapur to Chattogram was stopped and searched during the operation, leading to the seizure of the illegal shrimp fry worth around Tk6 crore.
The seized fry were later released into a sea channel near Monkhali Bridge in Teknaf in the presence of the upazila senior fisheries officer, he added.
The Coast Guard will continue such drives to protect fisheries resources, said Lieutenant Commander Suman Al Mukit.
