The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained four fishermen and seized an illegal artisanal trawling boat during a raid in Chattogram’s Banskhali on Tuesday night.
The operation, conducted near the Shekherkhil fish market, also resulted in the recovery of two trawling nets worth approximately Tk 4 lakh and 400kg of marine fish.
Following the raid, the illegal nets were destroyed in the presence of the Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer.
Authorities confirmed that the seized fish were sold at an auction, and the resulting funds were deposited into the government treasury. Lieutenant Commander Suman Al Mukti, Media Officer for the Coast Guard East Zone, stated that such drives would continue to protect the nation’s fisheries resources.
