Coastguards detained a member of the “Sundarbans Karim Sharif bandit” gang and seized weapons, ammunition and wildlife poaching equipment during an operation in Bagerhat.
Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, media officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard, confirmed the arrest Thursday. The detainee was identified as Al‑Amin Bacchu Hawlader, 45.
The raid was conducted at the Amurbunia Forest Office, where officials recovered four single‑barrel guns, 20 live cartridges, 74 blank cartridges, seven airgun pellets, a telescope, solar panel, battery, walkie‑talkie charger and a wooden boat.
Coast Guard also destroyed a hideout used by the gang inside the Sundarbans.
A joint operation at Bacchu’s residence later recovered additional equipment used for robbery and poaching.
