The court has directed the Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct further investigation into the case filed regarding the murder of Inqilab Moncho’s spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi and to submit a report by 20 January.
This order was issued this Thursday afternoon by the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jesmin Islam in Dhaka. DC Mia Mohammad Asis Bin Hasan of the DMP Prosecution Department informed reporters of this matter.
Previously, the DB had been investigating the case. However, being dissatisfied with the DB’s investigation, the plaintiff of the case, Inqilab Moncho’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jabir, filed a protest petition in court on Thursday. The court kept the order pending regarding his protest petition. Later in the afternoon, the investigation responsibility of the case was handed over to the CID.
During the hearing for submitting the protest petition, lawyer Mostafizur Rahman Mukul said, “The investigation officer submitted this chargesheet merely to fulfill the duty of submission. It does not mention the relationship between the main planners of the murder and the shooter killers. Hadi was not an ordinary person. There was definitely a major plan to kill him. That’s why he was shot and killed publicly. So that no one else would dare to speak against fascism and hegemony like Hadi did. The chargesheet provided by the police mentions an Awami League ward councilor. This is ridiculous; it is not conceivable that a ward councilor would dare to do this. There was definitely a major plan. That is why we have filed this protest against this chargesheet.”
He further said, “Only Faisal has been shown here. That his check was seized is a ridiculous matter. What kind of investigation is this? How did they get a safe exit after committing a murder in broad daylight? The chargesheet does not mention how the planners helped the killer escape. Sharif Osman Hadi repeatedly spoke about justice and also wanted that very justice if he were killed. For that, for the sake of justice, we have filed this protest.”
After the hearing, the court kept the order pending.
On 6 January, the investigation officer of this case, DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed, submitted a chargesheet against 17 individuals. Afterwards, on 12 January, the plaintiff of the case appeared in court and took time until Thursday (January 15) to review the chargesheet provided by the police. The court scheduled today for the hearing regarding the acceptability of the chargesheet.
The main accused in the chargesheet is Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud. Others include Faisal’s associate Almagir Hossain, Organizing Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Juba League and former ward councilor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappy, Philip Snal Philips, Mukti Akhtar, and Faisal’s sister Jesmin Akhtar. They are fugitives.
The remaining 11 accused are detained in jail. They are Faisal Karim Masud’s father Md Humayun Kabir, mother Mst Hasi Begum, wife Saheda Parvin Samia, friend Maria Akhtar Lima, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu, rent-a-car businessman Mufti Md Nuruzzaman Nomany alias Ujjal, Faisal’s close associate Md Kabir, Sibion Diu, Sanjay Chisim, Md Aminul Islam alias Raju, and Md Faisal, arrested in Narsingdi with weapons.
The case statement alleges that Sharif Osman Hadi had been serving as the spokesperson after forming Inqilab Moncho following the uprising. On 12 December at 2:20pm, miscreants on a motorcycle in the Box Culvert Road area of Paltan Model Thana shot Hadi and fled. As a result, he sustained critical injuries with gunshot wounds to his head and below his right ear.
He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then to Evercare Hospital for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, Osman Hadi was taken to Singapore via air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment. He died on 18 December while under treatment after one week.
Regarding this incident, Inqilab Moncho’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jabir filed an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station on 14 December. Subsequently, it was converted into a murder case.
