Family Welfare Service and Promotion Week concluded on Thursday in Chuadanga’s Damurhuda Upazila with calls for building planned families and ensuring safe motherhood.
The closing ceremony, organised by the Hawli Union Health and Family Welfare Centre, was held at the centre premises at 9:30am under the theme ‘Planned families, a commitment to safe motherhood.’
Chuadanga deputy commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossen attended as the chief guest.
He said family planning is not only about controlling childbirth but a foundation for a healthy, prosperous life.
“When couples plan their families, they can ensure the health of mothers and children, maintain economic stability and shape a better future,” he said.
He urged everyone to learn about family planning services, use them and encourage others.
“Let us stay informed, build planned families, lead healthy lives and contribute to national development,” he added.
The event was presided over by District Family Planning Deputy Director Dipok Kumar Shaha and conducted by Damurhuda Upazila Assistant Health and Family Planning Officer Hosne Mobarak Shilon.
Special guests included Damurhuda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Obaidur Rahman Sahel, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Mashiur Rahman, Medical Officer Torikul Islam, acting Hawli Union Chairman Nizam Uddin, Dr Shamsunnahar Shampa, Dr Mosammat Selina, invited guests, development partners and representatives of various organisations.
At the end of the programme, prizes were distributed to mothers and children selected through a lottery under the centre’s good-practice initiative.
