Police have detained three Indian nationals in Panchhari of Khagrachhari on charges of illegally crossing the border into Bangladesh. They were detained on Wednesday afternoon from the Pujgang area of the upazila.

The detainees are James Kumar Riang (33), Tarsen Riang (30) and Lal Thakma Riang (32).

Police said they were detained while roaming suspiciously in the Pujgang area. During interrogation, they said they were residents of Gruinang Para village under Nutun Bazar police station in Gomati district of Tripura state, India.

Panchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ferdous Wahid said, “They have been detained for illegally crossing the border. After a case was filed at the police station, they were sent to court on Thursday morning following legal procedures.”
