Zhai Jun, China’s special envoy for Middle East affairs, is visiting Saudi Arabia with the aim of mediating an end to the ongoing Iran war.
The Chinese special envoy stated that Beijing is ready to work with Riyadh to make unremitting efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Gulf region, according to the BBC.
Zhai Jun described his country as a good friend and partner of Riyadh. During his visit, he held a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
Zhai Jun expressed deep concern over the current regional tensions. He stated that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf countries should not be violated. He added that any attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets should be condemned.
Zhai Jun reiterated Beijing’s call for the immediate cessation of ongoing military operations.
