A four-year-old child was killed after a wall of an under-construction building collapsed on him in the capital’s Vatara area on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Mahid Islam, the only child of private car driver Habib Hossain and his wife Mousumi Akhter.
The incident occurred around 3:00pm beside the Nur Nabi grocery shop in Hazari Gali area of Khilbarirtek. Mahid was playing with other children in an alley beside the under-construction building when a newly constructed wall suddenly collapsed on him, according to his family.
Critically injured, the child was first taken to a local hospital by relatives and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 4:30pm.
Mahid’s father said their family originally came from Ratanpur village under Bhola Sadar Upazila and currently lives in a rented house in Hazari Gali.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
The Vatara Police Station is investigating the incident.
