The Bangladesh Chhatra Union has strongly condemned and protested the inclusion of the names of “convicted notorious war criminals” in a condolence motion during the first session of the 13th national parliament. They commented that by including the names of “war criminals” in the condolence motion, a “betrayal” has been committed against the 30 lakh martyrs of the Great Liberation War of 1971.
During the first session of the thirteenth national parliament on Thursday, the names of war criminals, including “convicted notorious war criminals” Motiur Rahman Nizami, Ali Ahsan Mujahid, Delwar Hossain Sayedee, and Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, were included in a condolence motion.
In a joint statement, Bangladesh Chhatra Union Central Council President Mahir Shahriar Reza and General Secretary Bahauddin Shubho condemned and protested the inclusion of the names of “notorious war criminals” in the condolence motion, stating, “By including the names of notorious war criminals in the condolence motion during the first session of the thirteenth national parliament, this parliament has betrayed the blood of the 30 lakh martyrs of the Great Liberation War of 1971.
“We observed that instead of paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War, the names of war criminals were included in the condolence motion in parliament. The BNP, claiming to be a pro-Liberation War force, formed the government by securing people’s votes, yet allowed the inclusion of war criminals’ names in the condolence motion, which is tantamount to betraying the people. Through this, the BNP has essentially repeated its old policy of keeping war criminals as its associates.
“We strongly condemn and protest the inclusion of the names of convicted notorious war criminals in the condolence motion. The Liberation War is the most glorious chapter of this nation and this land. If the Liberation War is insulted, the people will give an appropriate response.”
