Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that around 7 lakh people have been affected by the recent floods in Chattogram, while relief, healthcare and rehabilitation efforts continue across the worst-hit areas.

He made the remarks while distributing relief among flood victims in front of Mahmudun Nabi Chowdhury School at Maijhpara in Patenga.

The minister said dry food had already been distributed among 70,000 affected families, while 40,000 families had received cooked meals. Healthcare services remain operational in the flood-hit areas, and assistance will continue according to the needs of affected communities, he said.

“There is no reason to worry. The government is fully prepared to deal with the post-flood situation,” Khosru said.

“Rehabilitation activities will continue until all affected people are properly resettled.”

After distributing relief in different parts of Patenga, the minister was scheduled to visit Chandanaish, Dohazari and Satkania later on Friday.

His programme also included a visit to the erosion-hit Dolu Khal area in Adhunagar union of Lohagara upazila, where he was due to distribute relief among affected residents.

He was also scheduled to inspect flood-hit areas in Nalua union of Satkania and distribute relief at the Nalua Union Parishad office.

The minister was later expected to distribute relief at several locations in Saral union of Banshkhali upazila.

Khosru said the government would continue relief and rehabilitation programmes until normalcy returned to all flood-affected areas.
