A dispute over seating arrangements at a wedding ceremony triggered violent clashes between two teenage gangs in Madaripur town, leaving at least five people injured and several homes damaged.
Officer-in-charge of Madaripur Model Police Station Abul Kalam Azad confirmed, the violence began on Sunday evening and continued until early Monday.
More than 100 cocktail bombs exploded during the clashes, and at least 15 houses were vandalised, according to local sources.
The incident began on Saturday afternoon at a wedding held at Planet Community Centre, hosted by Italy expatriate Mamun. An argument broke out between Akib of Thanatoli area and Moin Munshi of Pakdi area over chair arrangements.
Although guests resolved the issue at the time, tensions persisted.
The dispute escalated on Sunday evening when the two groups clashed using locally made weapons. Repeated explosions from evening through the night spread panic across Thanatoli and Pakdi areas.
At around 9pm, the situation worsened, prompting police from Sadar Model Police Station to fire tear gas shells and bring the situation under control.
However, taking advantage of reduced police presence, another sudden attack was carried out early Monday. During the attack, at least 15 houses in Pakdi area were vandalised and five people were injured.
Tension continues to grip the area, with additional police deployed to maintain order.
OC Abul Kalam Azad said police responded immediately after receiving the information and brought the situation under control.
He added that efforts are underway to identify those involved and legal action will be taken against them.
