CFA Society Bangladesh held its 11th annual general meeting on April 16 and announced new board members for the 2026-2028 term.

The new board members are Shanta Asset Management CEO Kazi Monirul Islam, Shanta Securities Head of Research and Strategic Planning S M Galibur Rahman, UCB Asset Management Senior Portfolio Manager S M Samiuzzaman, and LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Manager for Strategy Department Saad Niamatullah.

The newly elected board members will serve from July 1 for two years.

The board will continue working to advance ethics, education and professional excellence in Bangladesh’s investment industry in line with the global mission of CFA Institute, the society said in a press release.

At the meeting, the society reviewed its activities, financial performance and leadership changes.

President Asif Khan presented the body’s activities over the past year, focusing on member engagement, advocacy and professional development.

Treasurer Kazi Raquib-Ul Huq then placed the financial statements for the year ended on 31 December 2025.

Nomination Committee Chair Md Minhaz Zia later announced the newly elected board members for the next term. The society also recognised the contributions of outgoing Vice-President Md Iqbal Hossain and Treasurer Kazi Raquib-Ul Huq, according to a press release.

After the AGM, the society held a continuing education session at Renaissance Hotel in Gulshan titled “Bangladesh’s Power Sector under the New Government, Policy Direction, Challenges, and Opportunities”.

The session featured Independent University of Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Tamim and Confidence Group Chairman Imran Karim as speakers. Bank Asia DMD Mahtab Osmani moderated the discussion.

They discussed changes in Bangladesh’s power sector policy landscape, focusing on energy security, efficiency gains and the shift towards a more sustainable and diversified energy mix.

The speakers said long-term planning, stronger private-sector participation and regulatory clarity would be important to address structural challenges and capture opportunities created by shifts in the global energy market and technological advances.

CFA Society Bangladesh is a member society of CFA Institute and works to promote professional standards, continuing education and networking in the country’s investment industry.

CFA Institute is the global association of investment professionals that sets standards for professional excellence and credentials and promotes ethical behaviour in financial markets.

It has more than 170,000 charterholders and about 160 member societies worldwide, while CFA Society Bangladesh has more than 131 charterholders and around 80 associate members, the press release said.
