Norway’s Casper Ruud has withdrawn from this year’s Wimbledon Championships as he continues to recover from a knee injury, his management confirmed to Norwegian media on Saturday.
The world No. 16 and two-time French Open finalist has not fully recovered from the setback that contributed to his early exit at Roland Garros last month, where he suffered a surprise second-round defeat to unseeded Portuguese player Nuno Borges.
“He’s back on the court, and things are going well, but it looks like playing best-of-five sets is unfortunately a bit too soon,” said his manager Tina Falster, speaking to NTB. “Gstaad will be next for Casper now.”
Ruud, who has never advanced beyond the second round at Wimbledon, will instead turn his attention to the Swiss Open in Gstaad, which begins on 14 July — two weeks after the All England Club tournament gets underway on 30 June.
The 25-year-old remains one of the top contenders on clay, but grass has proved less fruitful in his career so far.
