A case has been filed over the rape of a school teacher in the Tareng area of Khagrachhari’s Alutila tourist centre, where she was reportedly assaulted after being intercepted on the road.
The incident took place around 8:30pm on Thursday. Army members later detained 24-year-old Liton Tripura, son of Bachchu Ram Tripura from Mahalchhara Golabari in Khagrachhari Sadar upazila, for his suspected involvement.
According to the case details, the 29-year-old Chakma teacher was travelling to Alutila with a friend after attending a gaye holud ceremony when the accused followed them on a motorcycle and blocked their path at Tareng. He then forcibly took her into a nearby forest and raped her.
The friend accompanying the victim managed to alert a nearby army camp, prompting soldiers to rush to the scene, arrest the suspect, and hand him over to Matiranga Police Station.
Matiranga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Toufiqul Islam said the survivor filed a case herself on Thursday night. He added that the accused will be produced before court and the victim has been sent for a medical examination at Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital.
