Selima Ahmad, founder and president of the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI), died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bangkok. She was 65.
A press release issued by the chamber said Selima, also a former lawmaker, passed away during medical treatment abroad.
BWCCI described her death as “an immeasurable loss” to her family, colleagues and the wider business community, saying she was a visionary entrepreneur and a pioneering advocate for women’s economic empowerment in Bangladesh.
The chamber said her leadership and dedication had reshaped opportunities for women in business across the country, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and empowerment.
In a condolence message, BWCCI prayed for the eternal peace of her soul and for her to be granted the highest place in Jannatul Ferdous.
Selima Ahmad was the Vice Chairperson of Nitol Niloy Group, a top conglomerate of the country with a dominant exposure in the automobile industry.
