Locals have recovered the body of a migrant worker named Zafar, 42, from his own fish enclosure in the Deilpara area of Jaliapalong Union in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. He was the son of the late Haji Sikandar of the same area.
Residents spotted the body around 7:30pm and, once his identity was confirmed, informed the police.
Zafar had spent many years abroad, with his family still living overseas. After returning home, he remarried and began managing his land, farming and fish project, living alone in a small hut inside the enclosure.
His body was found a day after he went missing, creating a stir in the area. An electric wire was discovered lying beside him.
Ukhiya Police visited the spot and said it remains unclear whether the death was natural, accidental or a homicide. Locals have called for a thorough investigation.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaul Haq said the body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the cause of death will be known once the report is available.
