A bus parked on the Dhaka–Aricha highway caught fire in Savar area on Saturday night. No casualties were reported.
The incident took place near Genda Bus Stand in Savar, said Meherul Islam, warehouse inspector of Savar Fire Service Station.
According to eyewitnesses, smoke and flames suddenly started coming out of the bus while it was parked.
He said a unit of the Fire Service rushed to the spot after receiving the report at night. Firefighters immediately began operations and managed to bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately. However, primary findings suggested the fire may have been caused deliberately by miscreants.
Arman Ali, officer‑in‑charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station, said police visited the scene after receiving the information. “We identified the bus owner as Azharul Islam and the driver as Julmon,” he said.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, he added.
