Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam Bulbul denied reports that he was leaving the country on Sunday. But he later flew to Australia the same night, according to airport sources.
Bulbul left Dhaka late Sunday night to be with his family in Australia. Speculation about his trip had been spreading since the evening.
As the rumours grew, Bulbul spoke to Star Play and said he was not travelling anywhere. He said he spent the whole day at the BCB office. He also said he would continue working the next day.
“There was never any plan to go to my family, and that is my personal matter,” Bulbul said.
He also questioned where the reports came from. He said he was busy with important work at the board.
Bulbul warned that false information harms the image of institutions. He said it also slows down work.
“Let’s try to speak the truth and do the real work,” he said. However, a Daily Sun report says airport sources confirmed on Monday that Bulbul had already left for Australia. They added that he usually stays in Australia for around two weeks.
Some people close to the development believe he may not return soon. They said his future at the BCB office could be uncertain ahead of the national election on 12 February.
The news comes at a tense time for the BCB. The board has been through turmoil over Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 issue. The situation started after political tension with India grew following Mustafizur Rahman’s controversial removal from the IPL.
The BCB later raised security concerns and wanted Bangladesh’s World Cup matches moved out of India. Sri Lanka was seen as an option. But the ICC did not accept the request.
The ICC then asked the BCB to confirm whether Bangladesh would travel to India. It warned that Bangladesh could be replaced if they refused.
Bangladesh stayed firm on its position. After that, the ICC board voted to exclude Bangladesh from the tournament. Scotland were reported as the top team to take their place.
