Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), Canada, have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster academic and research cooperation between the two institutions.
The agreement was signed by Prof ABM Badruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of BUET. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Pro-VC Prof A Hasib Chowdhury, Prof Shayer Ghafur (Dean of Architecture and Planning), Prof M Abdul Jalil (Dean of Civil Engineering), and Dr Khandaker Shabbir Ahmed (Professor of Architecture).
The scope of the MoU encompasses a wide range of collaborative efforts, including joint graduate and postgraduate academic programs, supervision of visiting research students, and project-based collaborative activities.
Furthermore, the partnership will facilitate the organization of conferences, seminars, and academic events, alongside promoting academic staff mobility and research collaboration, according to press release.
BUET is widely regarded as a premier institution in Bangladesh for engineering, architecture, planning, and technological education. TMU is recognized internationally for its innovative and research-oriented urban education environment in Canada.
The initiative to establish this collaboration was led by Prof Shabbir Ahmed from the BUET side, and Prof Lisa Landrum and Dean Ahmed Abdelrahman from the TMU side.
This partnership is expected to open new avenues for interdisciplinary research, academic exchange, and international cooperation for students, researchers, and faculty members of both universities.
