Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) concluded its week-long Research Week 2026 on Thursday with a closing ceremony that honoured outstanding achievements in research, publications and innovation across the university community.
Organised by the BUBT Research Graduate School, the event held from 25 to 29 January and featured a series of research-based activities, including faculty-wise presentations, poster exhibitions, panel discussions, workshops and a Student Research Idea Competition, according to a press release.
The initiative highlighted the university’s growing research culture and encouraged active participation from teachers, researchers and students.
The Closing and Award Giving Ceremony was held on Thursday, with Prof Md Abu Saleh, adviser of BUBT, attending as the chief guest.
During the event, the chief guest recognised the outstanding contributions of teachers, researchers, research assistants and students, and lauded the university’s efforts to promote research and innovation.
In recognition of high-quality research publications, Dr Muhammad Aminur Rahaman received the High Impact Factor Publication Award for his paper published in Artificial Intelligence Review, a journal with an impact factor of 13.9 and a five-year impact factor of 14.9.
Prof Dr Ahmed Al Mansur, professor and chairman of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, received both the Top Research Citation Award and the Top Research Contributor Award.
In 2025, he achieved 506 citations and published 31 research papers under BUBT affiliation, earning him the dual honours.
A total of 36 awards were presented during the ceremony. Among them, 18 faculty members received Research Awards, 14 were given Research Excellence Awards, and four were recognised with Outstanding Research Awards for publications in internationally recognised journals.
The Research Excellence Awards acknowledged high-quality and influential research, while the Top Research Assistant Award acknowledged the contributions of research assistants.
Lecturer Maharin Afroj of the CSE department was recognised as the Top Woman Research Contributor.
Student research was also highlighted during the ceremony. The Best Student Thesis/Project Award (Gold) was awarded to the CSE department project titled “Bilingual Bangla OCR for Rural Empowerment”.
In the Student Research Idea Competition, Md Ariful Islam, Sanjana Afrin Oishee and Tabiha Tabassum from the Textile Engineering department won the first prize.
Among research assistants, the top poster award went to Rakib Hasan and Md Sahadat Hossain Sani in the category of Top 5 Research Posters.
The week-long event was organised under the leadership of Professor Dr ABM Shawkat Ali, vice-chancellor of BUBT, and Dr Muhammad Aminur Rahaman, Dean of the BUBT Research Graduate School, who oversaw the successful conduct of the programme, promoting research and innovation across the university.
