Students from the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University (BU) secured notable international recognition at the XXIX Plastic Spatial Encounter 2026 held in Mexico, jointly organised by the Faculty of Architecture of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Luis Barragán Workshop, with Bangladeshi teams earning top honours among global competitors, said in a press release.
Both participating teams from BU’s Studio 1.2 (42nd Batch) achieved awards, with Md Hasin Almas Himel, Tasnim and Shashwati Gharami securing second place for their project “Edge of Eternity”, while Mosaddik Chowdhury, H M Hadi and Ishrat Jahan Samia received a First Honorable Mention for “The Living Cube”, marking a significant achievement for Bangladesh University on the international stage.
The recognition highlights the continued performance of BU architecture students in global design competitions, following earlier success in the 2024 edition of the same event, where students secured third place and two Commendation Awards, further strengthening the university’s academic reputation in architectural education.
Faculty mentors played a key role in the achievement, with team advisors Ema Eshrat and S M Ahadul Islam providing continuous guidance, while Studio teachers Sheikh Itmam Soud, Minhal Ahmed and Arif Mahtab Kabir supervised the overall process.
Bangladesh University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Quazi Jamil Azher, BoT Member Architect Iqbal Habib, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Jahangir Alam congratulated the students and faculty, describing the achievement as evidence of strong progress in merit-based, creative and globally competitive architectural education.
