Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on Tuesday fined Tashofa Filling Station in the capital’s Mohakhali area Tk4,00,000 for deceiving customers by providing less fuel than the measured amount.
A BSTI mobile court conducted the drive at the filling station, located at 63, Shaheed Tajuddin Sarani, Mohakhali, in accordance with the Weights and Measures Standards Act. During the inspection, officials verified four dispensing units and found significant shortfalls in fuel delivery.
According to a BSTI press release, one octane dispensing unit was found to be providing 120 ml less fuel per 10 litres. Additionally, three diesel dispensing units were found to be delivering 230 ml, 220 ml, and 190 ml less fuel respectively for every 10 litres.
Following the discovery of these discrepancies, the mobile court imposed the fine and ordered the four faulty dispensing units to be sealed and shut down immediately.
The operation was led by BSTI Executive Magistrate Luthfunnessa Khanam, while Ahsan Habib Khan, examiner (metrology) of BSTI, acted as the prosecutor. The institution said such drives will continue in the public interest to ensure fair measurements for consumers.
