Indian Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push 12 people into Bangladesh through the Burimari Bamondol border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.
However, the attempt was thwarted by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the group is currently staying about 100 yards inside Indian territory near the border’s zero line.
According to BGB and local sources, the BSF attempted to push the group, comprising two children, two women and eight men, into Bangladesh around 3am on Sunday through an area adjacent to border pillar No. 838/1.

After receiving information from locals, a BGB team immediately reached the spot and took up positions along the border.
Faced with strong resistance and the BGB’s alert stance, the BSF was forced to withdraw from its plan to push the group into Bangladesh.
Local sources said BGB patrols and surveillance along the border had been strengthened to prevent further push-ins.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Shahinul Islam, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-61, said the BGB had protested the BSF’s unauthorised attempt to push the people into Bangladesh.
A flag meeting had been requested, and efforts were underway to resolve the matter through a meeting soon, he added.
