The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) will organise a four-day cultural programme in Dhaka from May 8 to 11 to mark the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

The event, arranged with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, will take place at the National Theatre Hall of the academy and feature discussions, cultural performances, theatre productions and an art exhibition dedicated to Tagore’s life and works.

The inaugural ceremony will begin on May 8 at 5:30 pm. Information and Broadcasting Minister Jahir Uddin Swapan will attend as chief guest, while Social Welfare Ministry State Minister Farzana Sharmin Putul will join as special guest.

ABM Obaidul Islam, Vice Chancellor of University of Dhaka, will deliver the keynote speech. Rezauddin Stalin, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, will chair the opening session.

On the second day, Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Nurul Islam Moni will attend as chief guest, while Cultural Affairs Ministry State Minister Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam will be present as special guest.

The third day’s programme will feature Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury as chief guest alongside Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam and D Zahed Ur Rahman, adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office, as special guests.

Kaniz Moula, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, will preside over sessions on different days, while Rezauddin Stalin will deliver welcome remarks.

The closing ceremony on May 11 will feature a staging of ‘Achalayatan’, directed by Azad Abul Kalam and produced by Prangonemore Theatre.

Each evening’s programme will also include music, dance and recitation performances inspired by Tagore’s literary and artistic legacy.

As part of the celebration, a painting exhibition titled ‘Robir Chitre-Chitre Robi’ will open on May 10 at Gallery-2 of the National Art Gallery plaza.
The exhibition will remain open daily from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm until May 23.
