Brazil sealed top spot in Group C with a dominant 3-0 win over Scotland at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday.
Vinicius Junior starred with two goals. He put Brazil ahead after taking advantage of a poor back pass from Scott McKenna. He then headed home his second before Matheus Cunha added the third after a fine move led by Bruno Guimaraes.
Brazil created several more chances in the second half. Vinicius almost completed his hat trick, but Angus Gunn made a series of good saves to keep the score down.
The match also marked Neymar’s return for Brazil. The forward came off the bench for his first international appearance since 2023. He became only the fourth Brazilian to play in four World Cups, joining Djalma Santos, Cafu and Pele.
Scotland fought until the end in search of a goal that could improve their hopes of reaching the round of 32 as one of the best third placed teams. Scott McTominay came closest late on, but Alisson produced an excellent save from close range.
The victory sent Brazil into the knockout stage as Group C winners. Scotland must now wait for results in the other groups to find out if they have done enough to advance.
