Bangladeshi films have steadily expanded their presence in international markets in recent years and ‘Bonolota Express’ has now set a new benchmark. The film, directed by Tanim Noor, has surpassed the overseas earnings record previously held by ‘Hawa’.
According to international distributor Swapna Scarecrow and box office tracker Comscore, Hawa had grossed $358,000 following its release in North America. In comparison, Bonolota Express has already earned $361,000 within its first two weeks, marking a new milestone for Bangladeshi cinema.
Swapna Scarecrow president Mohammad Aliullah Sajeeb said that if the current momentum continues, the film could soon cross the $400,000 mark, further strengthening its position in the overseas market.
Director Tanim Noor expressed gratitude to audiences, noting that the film’s success highlights the growing global potential of Bengali cinema. He described the achievement as a proud moment for the entire team.
Currently in its third week, Bonolota Express is screening in 22 cinemas across North America and the UK. The ensemble cast includes Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Intekhab Dinar, Zakia Bari Mom, Ajmeri Haque Badhan, Sabila Noor, Shariful Raj, Shyamal Mawla, Arefin Jilani and Labanya Chowdhury, among others.
The film is produced by Buriganga Talkies, co-produced by Hoichoi Productions and presented by United Commercial Bank. International distribution is handled by Swapna Scarecrow, with Reverly Films serving as associate distributor in the UK.
