Veteran Bangladeshi actress Khaleda Akter Kolpona has been receiving treatment at a hospital in Dhaka for the past 13 days after developing a serious viral illness.
Her health has improved in recent days, and she may return home later this week.
Imran Haso, an executive committee member of the Actors’ Equity Guild, shared the update on the actress’s condition.
He visited her at the hospital on Monday alongside Suchona Sikdar, the organisation’s law and welfare secretary, to check on her recovery.
According to Imran, the infection affected Kolpona’s entire body and left her unable to speak for four to five days.
However, her condition has improved considerably, raising hopes that she will be discharged within the week.
Kolpona has also requested prayers from her well-wishers as she continues her recovery.
The veteran performer began her acting career as a leading lady during the era of black-and-white cinema.
Over the years, she earned recognition for portraying a wide range of characters, particularly elder sisters, sisters-in-law and mothers.
Although she no longer works regularly on screen, Kolpona occasionally appears in television dramas. Her most recent film appearance was in Tochnoch.
Her decades-long career has made her a familiar face in Bangladeshi cinema, where audiences have appreciated her performances across generations.
