Police have recovered the body of a 70-year-old freedom fighter, Manik Lal Das, from Shaulagor Haor in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj, a day after he was reported missing.
The body was found on Thursday night in the Chargao area under Baro Bhakoir (West) Union. The deceased was the son of the late Rosomoy Das from Sonapur village of the same union.
According to police, Manik Lal Das left home for his usual morning walk on Wednesday and did not return. When he could not be found despite extensive searches, his family filed a general diary with the police.
Later on Thursday night, local fishermen spotted a body floating in the haor and informed authorities. Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for an autopsy.
Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Kamruzzaman said the cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
