Actress Eamin Haque Bobby has rejected claims linking her to an arrested businessman as his spouse, saying the reports are false and have caused distress to her family.
Speaking to journalists at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) premises on Monday, Bobby addressed recent reports and social media discussions that described businessman Mirza Abul Bashar, who was arrested on fraud allegations, as her “alleged husband”.
The actress said there had never been any marital relationship between them and described such claims as entirely fabricated.
“‘Alleged husband’ is being said, but it is totally fake,” Bobby said. “Initially, it did not affect me because I know many things are spread without proper knowledge. But my family lives abroad and they do not always understand these things. When they see such reports, they become very upset. Not everything that appears in the news is necessarily true.”
Bobby alleged that some reports and online posts had been published without proper verification, damaging her reputation as an artist.
“Journalism is a noble profession, but some people are forgetting the ethics of the profession. Before publishing unverified reports, people should consider the impact they can have on someone’s personal and family life,” she said.
The actress challenged anyone to prove the alleged relationship.
“If anyone can prove that he is my husband, I will give them whatever they ask for, because such a relationship never existed. No one has any evidence to support that claim,” she said.
Bobby explained that she knew the businessman only through professional engagements and denied having any official connection with his company.
“My connection was limited to work. When artists attend events or visit offices, they are often photographed and treated with courtesy. Those photographs have been presented in a way that suggests a personal relationship, which is completely false,” she said.
According to Bobby, the rumours have had the greatest impact on her family. She said her mother had become unwell after seeing the reports and had repeatedly needed reassurance that the claims were untrue.
“My mother has become ill after seeing these reports. I have to keep explaining that they are fake. As a child, it is painful to see your family suffer unnecessarily,” she said.
Questioning the motivation behind the reports, Bobby asked why she had been described as a wife rather than simply as an acquaintance or friend.
She suggested that her name may have been linked to the controversy because the businessman had been a partial producer of one of her films.
“Perhaps my name was used because he was associated with a film I worked on. Otherwise, the matter might not have attracted the same attention. But no one has the right to play with an artist’s reputation and personal life,” she said.
During the conversation, Bobby also revealed that she plans to contest the upcoming Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association election as part of the Shiba Shanu-Joy Chowdhury panel. She previously won a position in the association’s election nearly a decade ago.
