Two unidentified people were killed in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a mini-truck in Noakhali’s Kabirhat upazila on Tuesday night.
The accident occurred at around 8:30pm in the Baripukurpar area of Sundalpur on the Kabirhat-Sonapur road, according to police and local residents.
The motorcycle was severely damaged in the collision, leaving both the rider and the pillion passenger dead on the spot. Their identities could not be established immediately.
Following the incident, police detained the mini-truck driver, Mohi Uddin Mahmud, and another individual, Salahuddin. Both are residents of Noakhali Sadar upazila.
Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, saying police rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies.
“Efforts are underway to identify the victims, and legal procedures are being followed,” he said.
The bodies will be sent to the morgue of the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy.
The accident caused a brief disruption to traffic on the road, but normal movement resumed after police brought the situation under control.
