The district returning officer has rejected nine nomination papers and declared 18 candidates valid in Manikganj’s three constituencies on the final day of scrutiny for the 13th parliamentary election.
District Commissioner and Returning Officer Nazmun Ara Sultana announced the decisions on Sunday afternoon after completing the verification process.
In Manikganj-1, nomination papers of two candidates were rejected out of nine contenders. The rejected candidates are independent aspirant Abdul Ali Bepari and Mohammad Shahjahan Khan of the Janata Party Bangladesh.
In Manikganj-2, three out of six candidates saw their nominations cancelled. They include BNP rebel candidate Abidur Rahman, another rebel candidate Abdul Haque, and Jatiya Party candidate S M Abdul Mannan.
In Manikganj-3, nomination papers of four candidates were rejected among 12 contenders. Those rejected are BNP rebel candidate Ataur Rahman Ata, independent candidate Rafiqul Islam, AB Party candidate Rafiqul Islam Jony, and independent candidate Faruk Hossain Omer.
The returning officer said the remaining 18 candidates across the three constituencies were found eligible to contest the election after scrutiny.
