Akhter Hossen, member secretary of the National Citizen Party and MP for the Rangpur-4 constituency, has said that while the BNP talks about the Family Card, it is destroying the businesses of all families in Bangladesh on the other hand and taking a stance against the aspirations of July.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a civic reception and iftar gathering held at Pirgacha Government College ground in Rangpur on Monday evening.
Leaders from the 11-party alliance, including Jamaat, NCP, Khilafat Majlis, and the Development Party, spoke at the civic reception presided over by Pirgacha Upazila Jamaat Ameer Bazlur Rashid Mukul.
Akhter said, “The BNP has started the terrorism they have lost. Even now, they are not safe. On one hand, they distribute sarees and lungis, and on the other, they have their activists harass people in their homes. BNP talks about the Family Card on one hand, and on the other, it destroys people’s families. We do not want this politics of hatred and enmity. We want to work with everyone. I want to say in a loud voice, when I am with the NCP, I am with the NCP. When I am with the eleven-party alliance, I am with the eleven-party alliance. When I am an MP, I belong to every person in Kaunia-Pirgacha, and then I belong to the whole of Bangladesh.”
Akhtar said, “I have made many promises to you. If I couldn’t have come to power, there could have been various obstacles in fulfilling my promises. But, for every promise made to you, I will not sit idle. Just as you ran door-to-door to tell people about the Shapla Koli (symbol), similarly, I will run, I will go to government offices to address every need of yours and get the work done, Insha’Allah.”
At the reception, the 11-party alliance, various educational institutions, business associations, and various social, cultural, and professional organisations honored Akhtar with crests and flowers in a ceremonial manner. Later, Akhtar broke fast with over 5,000 people.
