BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged party leaders and activists to stand by the people to resolve the country’s numerous problems.
He made the call on Saturday night while addressing thousands of leaders, activists, and supporters from the second-floor balcony of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan.
Tarique added that the people of the country are looking towards the BNP with high expectations. “Therefore, all our activists here and across the country must exercise patience and remain within the bounds of law,” he said.
He noted that the country faces numerous challenges and emphasised that activists must make people understand the situation, stand by them, and assist them in maintaining patience.
Addressing the traffic congestion caused by the massive gathering since the afternoon, Tarique told the activists that they must not cause hardship or inconvenience to the public. He stressed that the immediate priority was to clear the road.
He warned that if such a chaotic environment persists, it would be difficult for him to visit the party office.
“If you want me to come to the office, this road must be kept normal. I can only visit with your cooperation,” he told the crowd, who responded with affirmative slogans. He added that he intends to visit the office for the next few days to observe if the situation remains normal.
“But roads cannot be blocked like this. If the road is blocked, it is not possible for me to come. Being at the office allows me to meet with everyone and carry out organisational work,” he explained.
He urged the activists to clear the road within half an hour, noting that thousands of people were being inconvenienced. “We do not want to be the cause of problems for the people of the country,” he pointed out.
Tarique Rahman left the office in his vehicle at 9:40pm.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Joint Secretary General Habib un Nabi Khan Sohel, Treasurer Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Dhaka South City Administrator Abdus Salam, and North City Administrator Shafiqul Islam Milton, were present among others.
