The funeral prayers (namaz-e-janaza) for Mizanur Rahman Sinha, the treasurer of BNP central executive committee and managing director of Acme Laboratories Ltd, were held on Monday morning in front of the party’s central office in Nayapaltan.
The 83-year-old former state minister passed away on Friday while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Singapore.
The service, which took place around 10am, was attended by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and several other central leaders. Before the prayers, party figures paid tribute to Sinha’s extensive political and personal legacy.
Addressing the attendees, Rizvi said that Sinha was a vital figure for the goal of establishing a “new Bangladesh”.
He praised Sinha’s lifelong commitment to the welfare of the people, noting that his impact on social development and the national economy would be long remembered. Following the janaza, special prayers were conducted for the peace of the departed soul and the prosperity of the nation.
Born on 18 August 1943, in Dohuri village within the Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj, Sinha graduated in Business Studies from the University of Dhaka. His political involvement began during his student years.
He was elected to Parliament as a BNP candidate in both 1996 and 2001. After the 2001 general election, he served as the state minister for Health and Family Welfare in the cabinet led by former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
In addition to his central party role, Sinha was the convener of the Munshiganj district BNP. While he was initially nominated by the party to contest the 13th parliamentary election for the Munshiganj-2 (Louhajang-Tongibari) constituency, BNP Joint Secretary General Abdul Salam Azad was eventually nominated in his place following Sinha’s illness.
