Various political parties, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP), have expressed grief over the death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
The parties have demanded that the killer and the mastermind behind Hadi’s murder be brought to justice.
Osman Hadi, who was shot in the head, died at around 9:45pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment in Singapore.
The political parties issued their reactions in separate press releases after the news of his death was published. Assailants shot Osman Hadi in the capital’s Bijoynagar area on 12 December. He was taken to Singapore on Monday for advanced treatment.
Following the news of Osman Hadi’s death, a condolence message on the BNP’s verified Facebook page stated, “We are deeply saddened by the martyrdom of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and independent candidate for Dhaka-8, Sharif Osman Hadi.”
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer, Shafiqur Rahman, sent a statement to the media expressing sorrow over Osman Hadi’s death.
In the statement, he said, “Sharif Osman Hadi was a brave July warrior and a true patriot… He never bowed to injustice… I extend my deepest condolences to his wife, including his innocent child, grieving family members, comrades, and well-wishers.”
The NCP’s condolence message stated, “Leaders and activists at all levels of the National Citizen Party (NCP) are deeply saddened by the death of our comrade. We pray for the forgiveness of the departed soul.”
Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, has also expressed grief over Osman Hadi’s death. A release from the party at night stated, “The killer, the mastermind, and the conspirators behind Osman Hadi’s murder must be brought to justice, deploying all the government’s forces if necessary.”
Meanwhile, July Oikya has announced special prayers after Jummah and coffin processions across the country on Friday, in response to Osman Hadi’s death. This information was provided in a message sent to the media.
