Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute Tuesday morning to the graves of party founder and former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, marking BNP’s 48th founding anniversary.
As part of the day’s scheduled programmes, BNP Chairman Tarique, accompanied by senior party leaders, laid floral wreaths and joined prayers at the two graves.
Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, LGRD Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, and other senior leaders were present, along with leaders from affiliated and associate bodies.
The BNP was founded on 1 September 1978 by then president Ziaur Rahman and has since played a significant role in national politics. On this anniversary, party members recalled Zia’s political vision and ideals.
The party highlights independence, sovereignty, multiparty democracy, and national development as core principles behind its founding.
This year, BNP announced a five‑day programme. Tuesday’s events began at 6am with the hoisting of national and party flags at offices nationwide, followed by Tarique’s tribute at 9am.
On 5 September, a discussion will be held at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in Dhaka on the BNP’s founding purpose and significance, with Rahman as chief guest. Senior leaders and intellectuals are expected to attend.
