BNP came to power with the promise of “yes” in the referendum and is now deceiving the people, National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary and MP for Rangpur-4 Akhter Hossen alleged on Saturday.

“BNP says they have formed the government by receiving a majority of votes, so they can do whatever they want — this statement amounts to deception regarding the referendum,” Hossain said while addressing the national coordination meeting of Jatiya JuboShokti, an associate body of NCP.

“It is extremely unfortunate that on the very first day after taking oath following the election, the BNP government has deceived the people. Ignoring the aspirations of July and public opinion, they are making decisions arbitrarily,” he added.

Regarding the economic situation, Akhter Hossen said thousands of crores of taka have been printed immediately after coming to power.

“By changing the banking law for the rehabilitation of money launderers, it is understood that the chair has changed, but the mentality of bringing back the looters has not changed,” he said.

Warning the government, the NCP leader said his party will not allow fascism to return through collusion with Awami League. He also warned that if Awami League is not banned legally, it will be resisted with all force.

“When the government cannot control the price of fuel oil, people have to stand in long queues at pumps for hours, there is no control over prices of essential commodities, and fares are being increased in response to demands of transport owners, Tarique Rahman is establishing a new fascism by occupying universities in a terrorist manner,” Adeeb said.

He expressed hope that the government will walk the path of democracy rather than moving towards fascism.

Jatiya JuboShokti President Tarikul Islam said if the power of youth is not utilised, fascism will return repeatedly. Noting that political unity is very important in the current reality, he called upon all parties to move the country forward by building national consensus against fallen fascism and Awami League.

At the meeting, a 7-member partial committee of National Youth Power was announced. A full committee will be published soon.
