BNP-backed panel wins Joypurhat Bar Assoc polls

In the annual election of the Joypurhat District Lawyers’ Association, the panel supported by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won 10 out of 11 posts.

The election was held on Saturday at the Joypurhat District Bar Lawyers’ Building. Senior lawyer of the Joypurhat District Bar, Abdur Rahman, served as the chief election commissioner.

Voting took place continuously from 9am to 2pm. Of the 205 voters, 201 cast their votes. The election results were announced around 6pm.

According to the election commission, candidates from the BNP-backed “Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum” under the “ATM Mizanur Rahman–Shahidul Islam” panel defeated the candidates of the Jamaat-e-Islami–supported Bangladesh Lawyers’ Council’s “Momen Fakir–Shamsul Islam” panel.

Among the winners, BNP candidates were elected unopposed in two editorial posts and three executive member posts.

For the president’s post, Jamaat-supported candidate Abdul Momen Fakir received 93 votes, while BNP-supported candidate ATM Mizanur Rahman received 91 votes.

Apart from the president’s post, the BNP-supported panel won the remaining seven editorial positions, including the general secretary, and three executive member positions.

The other elected candidates are: –Vice-President Khairul Ahsan Sahida Jewel; General Secretary Mohammad Shahidul Islam; Joint General Secretary AKM Abu Sufian Palash; Finance Secretary Golam Maowdud Shahriar; and Hasanuzzaman Nannu as the Hospitality, Sports, Cultural and Social Welfare Secretary.

In addition, the following were elected unopposed: Nure Alam Siddiqi as Publicity and Publication Secretary, Abdul Momen Hamidul as Audit Secretary, and Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Soheli Parvin, Golam Maola and Mahmud Hasan Firoz as Executive Members.
