Mohammedan Sporting Club’s league woes deepened as the defending champions slumped to a surprise 2–0 defeat against Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club, just days after a morale-boosting win over rivals Abahani Limited. Instead of building on that momentum, Mohammedan produced an unrecognisable display against a side positioned near the foot of the table.

Fakirerpool claimed their first victory of the campaign at the Shaheed Miraz–Tapan Stadium in Manikganj, with both goals arriving in the second half.

After a cagey, goalless first half, Irfan Hossain broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, steering the ball home amid a scramble inside the box.

The advantage was doubled in the 61st minute when Ben Ibrahim combined neatly with Ariyan Hossain, slipped between two defenders and finished past Mohammedan goalkeeper Sakib Al Hasan. The Ivorian striker’s composed effort effectively killed off Mohammedan’s hopes of recovering. The champions have now lost twice to Fakirerpool in four league meetings, having been beaten 1–0 at home in last season’s first encounter.

Mohammedan sit ninth in the standings with four points from four matches, while Fakirerpool move up to eighth, also on four points.

Elsewhere, Brothers Union were held to a goalless draw by PWD Sports Club at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur.
