BNP to stage ‘Victory Torch Roadshow’, grand rally on Dec 16

The BNP will launch a two-week “Victory Torch Road Show” across the country in December to mark the month of Victory, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced at a press conference on Saturday.

The nationwide programme will feature discussion meetings and rallies, visits to historic sites linked to the independence and Liberation War, performances of the national anthem, Liberation War songs and patriotic music.

Selected excerpts from speeches of late president Ziaur Rahman, the announcer of independence, former prime minister Khaleda Zia and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will also be broadcast. Cultural performances by JASAS and documentary screenings are part of the schedule.

The theme song for the campaign is “Bangladesh First.”

Mirza Fakhrul said the celebrations will begin at the historic Kalurghat Radio Centre in Chattogram, from where Ziaur Rahman declared independence.

On 1 December, the Victory Torch will begin its journey from Kalurghat and reach the Chattogram Revolutionary Park the same day. A freedom fighter and a participant from the July 2024 movement will carry the torch.

The road show will later move through Cumilla, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Bogura, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Faridpur. After covering all divisions, the Victory Torch will arrive in Dhaka on 16 December.

 

The programme will conclude with a grand rally at Manik Mia Avenue, marking the end of the BNP’s “Victory Torch Road Show in the month of Victory.”
