The government has approved 29 public holidays for 2027, comprising 15 general holidays and 14 holidays under executive orders.
The Cabinet approved the holiday calendar at its meeting at the Secretariat on Monday, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani announced the decision at a press briefing following the meeting.
Of the 15 general holidays, four will coincide with weekends-two Fridays and two Saturdays. These holidays will cover national days and major religious festivals of different communities, he said.
The 14 holidays under executive orders will cover Bangla New Year and various major religious festivals. Three of these will fall on weekends – one Friday and two Saturdays.
Government employees will also be entitled to up to three days of optional leave annually on religious occasions, Nasimul Ghani said.
In addition, employees belonging to different ethnic communities working in the Chattogram Hill Tracts and elsewhere will be allowed two days of optional leave to celebrate their main social festival, Baisabi, or similar traditional festivals.
