Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall across the country, with the risk of landslides in some hilly areas of Chattogram division due to very heavy rain.
In a weather bulletin, the BMD said heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in places across Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions during the 24-hour period from 9am on Thursday.
The department warned that very heavy rainfall could trigger landslides in some hilly areas of Chattogram division.
The BMD also forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds of 45–60 kilometres per hour from the south or south-eastern direction over Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar regions.
The National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC), in a notice, said river ports in these areas have been asked to display local cautionary signal No 1.
Meanwhile, cautionary signals have been withdrawn from the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra.
