An agent of the mobile financial service Bkash was shot and around Tk 50 lakh was snatched in Tongi, Gazipur.
The incident occurred around 7:30pm on Saturday on Madhumita Road in Tongi.
The injured Bkash agent has been identified as Arif, 27, a resident of the Barnamala area under Tongi East Police Station. His father is Delwar Hossain.
Eyewitnesses reported that criminals opened fire on Arif during the snatching and fled with the cash he was carrying.
Police arrived at the scene on a tip off. Arif was rescued in an injured state and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Tongi East Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan stated that he visited the scene immediately after being informed of the incident.
He confirmed that a police operation has been launched to identify and arrest those involved in the snatching. Efforts are also underway to collect and review CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to apprehend those connected to the crime.
