Biman Bangladesh Airlines has initiated action against its Director of Procurement and Logistic Support, Md Rashedul Karim, following a series of allegations involving personal misconduct and administrative irregularities.
According to Biman sources, Karim allegedly married a woman named Moushumi Akter Lima on 24 January 2024.
The complaint suggests that Karim established a relationship with her while she was still in another marriage, later completing the wedding in secret. Despite the couple having a son, Karim is accused of refusing to grant legal or social recognition to his wife and child.
The victim submitted a written complaint to the Biman authorities on 30 November, alleging that she was subjected to mental pressure, intimidation, and physical assault when she demanded her status as his wife.
She further claimed that Karim used his influence to threaten her and keep the matter hidden.
In response to the complaint, the Biman administration and human resources department deemed the matter “investigable” and issued a show-cause notice to Karim. He has been directed to provide a written explanation within 96 hours.
Sources within the national flag carrier stated that failure to provide a satisfactory response within the stipulated time could lead to departmental action.
Beyond the personal allegations, Karim is also facing a probe into various irregularities and corruption. On the instructions of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, these claims are being scrutinised following a report from an intelligence agency.
The ongoing investigation covers allegations of abuse of power, ticketing irregularities, and the misuse of administrative influence.
Biman authorities have stated that the allegations are being taken seriously and will be verified through a thorough investigation. If the charges are proven, action will be taken in accordance with the established rules.
