Senior sports journalist Zahir Bhuiyan (53) died in a motorcycle accident on the slope of the Khilgaon flyover on Sunday. He worked for the Daily Bhorer Pata newspaper.

The accident occurred around noon. Bhuiyan sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mugda Medical College and Hospital. Later, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at 5pm.

His son, Rakib Bhuiya Tamim, said Bhuiyan was travelling from their home in Bashabo, Sabujbagh, to the newspaper office in Karwan Bazar. A passerby called to inform the family about the accident shortly after he left home.

Tamim first went to Mugda Medical College and Hospital to see his father in critical condition. Following medical advice, Bhuiyan was transferred to DMCH, where he later passed away. “I heard the accident took place on the slope of the Khilgaon Flyover Bridge. I don’t know any more than that,” Tamim said.

Dhaka Medical Police Camp in-charge Md Faruk confirmed Bhuiyan’s death. He said the body has been sent to the morgue for a post-mortem and the incident has been reported to the relevant police station.
