The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Productivity Organization (NPO) under the Ministry of Industries to enhance productivity and technological readiness in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector.

The MoU was signed at the NPO office in Dhaka by BGMEA Director Joarder Mohammed Hosne Quamar Alam and NPO President Md Nurul Alam.

The collaboration aims to prepare the RMG industry for Industry 4.0 through improved skills, quality, and agility while ensuring cost competitiveness.

Three RMG factories will also be selected each year as model enterprises for productivity pilot projects with NPO’s technical support.

“Bangladesh can no longer rely solely on cost advantage; we must focus on quality, skills, agility, and innovation to stay competitive,” said BGMEA Director Joarder Mohammed Hosne Quamar Alam.

The partnership also includes joint research and participation in Asian Productivity Organization (APO) programmes to drive innovation and build capacity across the sector.

BGMEA said the initiative will accelerate smart manufacturing adoption by integrating digital tools and IoT-based solutions across the RMG value chain.
