Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have stepped up security along Panchagarh border to prevent any suspects involved in shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi from fleeing the country.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Mohammad Kayes, commanding officer of Panchagarh‑18 BGB battalion, said, “Our forces remain on the highest alert to ensure that no suspect can escape to the neighbouring country, and intelligence surveillance has been intensified in our area of responsibility.”
Additionally, BGB Panchagarh‑18 battalion has increased vigilance along Panchagarh and other border points ahead of the 13th national election.
The move also aims to ensure that no miscreants entre Bangladesh from neighbouring countries with illegal weapons or ammunition.
A press release was issued on Saturday night in this regard.
BGB said it has strengthened its own intelligence efforts in the area. In addition to routine patrols by the battalion headquarters and border outposts (BOPs), special patrol teams have been deployed to conduct searches at critical and high‑risk points.
As part of these operations, vehicles and suspicious individuals moving through the border area are being thoroughly checked.
Surveillance has also been heightened at the Integrated Check Post in Banglabandha Land Port, where all vehicles and passengers are undergoing intensive inspection. Special search operations are also being conducted using the K‑9 unit (dog squad).
